2011 Emmies

Last January I did a literary recap of some of the best - and worst - books I had read the previous year. I had so much fun, I thought I'd do it again. So here goes nothing.

Books I read in 2011 in no particular order (favorites are in bold):

-- The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins
-- Blue Like Jazz by Donald Miller (for the second time)
-- The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton
-- So Long Insecurity by Beth Moore
-- Waking the Dead by John Eldridge
-- Beloved: Henri Nouwen in Conversation by Philip Roderick
-- The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
-- Visioneering by Andy Stanley
-- The Language of God by Francis S. Collins
-- Shanghai Girls by Lisa See
-- The Land Between by Jeff Manion
-- The Help by Kathryn Stockett
-- The Rainmaker by John Grisham
-- The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
-- Peace Like A River by Leif Enger
-- The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
-- A Kingdom Called Desire by Rick McKinley
-- The Zookeeper's Wife by Diane Ackerman
-- The Bible (don't you remember my single, solitary goal?)

And the Emmies go to...

Best Non-Fiction......So Long Insecurity (every woman must read this)
Best Religious.........The Bible, duh. Waking the Dead was really good, too.
Best Fiction.............The Hunger Games trilogy (close second - The Rainmaker)
Worst Book.............The Zookeeper's Wife (great idea, but poorly compiled/written)
Biggest Disappointment.......The Hobbit (not saying I didn't like it - just wasn't as good as I expected)

and finally

Best Book I read in 2011..........The Help

What were your favorites/least favorites in 2011??
